Alphabet Bingo is a simple, fun and engaging hands-on literacy game children can play to help them learn and recognise letters. Learning the letter sound first and then the letter name are important for reading and writing development.
What you will need?
To create your very own Alphabet Bingo in a Bottle game you will need, rice (coloured dye is optional), wooden alphabet letters, bottle tops, large plastic bottle (we used a 3 litre juice bottle) and the Printable Alphabet Bingo Score Card.
Using the wooden alphabet letters is a suggestion for this game and it was fortunate that I had some that would fit through the opening of the plastic bottle. Another option may be to print off some alphabet letters and laminate them. After placing the letters into the plastic bottle, I used a funnel to add the rice and then used a hot glue gun to secure the lid.
The bottle tops are used to cover the letters on the Alphabet Bingo Score Card, alternatively you could use blocks or torn pieces of paper.

Let’s Play
Shake it! Find it! Match it! Bingo!
This game can be played with 1 or as many children as you like. It involves children taking turns to shake the plastic bottle full of rice to reveal the alphabet letters and then using the bottle tops to cover the letters that can be seen in the bottle. The child who covers all the letters first calls, BINGO!
Let’s Learn
There are so many things I love about Alphabet Bingo in a Bottle, one particularly is that it promotes so much oral language as children need to talk about what letters they have found and which ones have not be found yet. Miss 3: “I haven’t found this one (pointing at the letter Tt on the chart)?” Me: “Oh, that is the letter Tt, it makes the ‘t’ sound. That’s right you haven’t found the ‘t’ letter yet.” Miss 3: “Yes, yes, the letter Tt, I haven’t found the letter t (shaking the bottle looking for it)!”

Extend the learning with more Alphabet Activities:
Make your own Alphabet Paint Roller by sticking foam letters onto a large cardboard roll. Children can then place the Alphabet Paint Roller onto a tray of paint, roll and print the letters onto to white paper to transfer the letter shapes.
