Letters and Sounds Word Builder Phase 2 Bundle

The Letters and Sounds Word Builder Mats Bundle encourages children to manipulate sounds to create simple words (and non-words) and write them down in the space provided.

They are a useful resource for consolidating phoneme and grapheme recognition, segmenting and blending skills.

The Word Builder Mats include one key middle sound and students join the circles together with the middle sound to create a CVC word. For example, the middle sound is /i/, connect /h/ /i/ /t/ to make hit or /b/ /i/ /g/ to make big.  Children then write the word down in the space provided.   

Children have fun manipulating the sounds and creating non-words as well and real words on the word builder mats.

The word builder mats also provide an opportunity for children to recognise patterns in words such as onset rime, b/ig/, f/ig/, p/ig/ and d/ig/.
